At the start of the 19th century, a number of family-run workshops in the small town of Castel d’Ario, Italy laid the groundwork for Astorflex, producing handmade footwear with leather uppers and wooden soles. Six generations later the footwear industry has moved on and Astorflex is one of it’s best kept secrets, still owned by the same family (now with 200 years shoe-making experience) and still manufactured with Italian craftsmanship in Castel d’Ario; The product, however, is somewhat different. Simple and ethically made takes on classic designs are the theme throughout each season, combining vegetable tanned leather uppers, memory foam lined footbeds and soles made from naturally occurring rubber, all held together by eco-friendly non-solvent glue.
